The homeroom teacher’s task is to ensure the realization of educational goals for their assigned class. The homeroom teacher gets to know their students and handles their matters confidentially. The homeroom teacher is also the primary contact person between the parents of their students and the school.
The homeroom teacher’s session/class is held every week, where necessary information is shared, class matters are agreed upon, etc.
The homeroom teacher organizes parent meetings in the way they see best. Homeroom teachers are available during parent evenings as needed.

The success of schoolwork requires a shared vision between home and school regarding educational and learning objectives. Guardians have the primary responsibility for the child’s upbringing. The school is responsible for the student’s education and learning when the student is a member of the school community. The school staff strives to work in cooperation with guardians so that guardians can support their children’s goal-oriented learning and school attendance.
Cooperation between home and school is implemented at both community and individual levels. The aim of shared educational responsibility is to promote the student’s:
- learning conditions
- security
- well-being
Parents are responsible for ensuring that students are not absent from school without a valid reason.
In case of illness, the school hopes that parents will notify about the absence as soon as possible.
The contact person is the homeroom teacher.
If a student is absent from school on a test day due to illness, the specific teacher must be notified.
Absences also affect assessment. A significant number of absences may lead to a course failure.
The school’s wish is that family vacation trips coincide with the school’s holiday periods. However, if a student needs time off from school, the following procedure should be followed:
1) Time off must be requested at least one week before the start of the leave. Otherwise, the leave will not be granted. Requests submitted too close to the leave will not have time to go through the necessary process, and the principal is not available daily to grant the leave.
2) The homeroom teacher grants leaves of 3 days or less.
3) Leaves exceeding three days must be requested from the principal.
4) The leave request is filled out in Wilma (Guardian logs in from the website janakkala.inschool.fi (not via the mobile app).
Applications and decisions -> Make a new application -> select the desired form)
5) The student collects tasks from teachers for the time of leave, which must be completed when they return to school.
The purpose of student assessment is to support and guide the student in a positive way and encourage them in their studies.
Students are evaluated throughout the school year in all of the school’s interaction situations based on continuous monitoring as well as test results and other performances.
The grading is based on the objectives set in the curriculum. The basis for assessment includes the goals set for the school’s own activities and the knowledge and skills required by each subject as well as the student’s progress in them.
At Turengin Yhteiskoulu, students are given a progress report in Wilma at the end of the autumn semester and a school year certificate in the spring. The school year certificate evaluates the entire year’s performance.
Elective subjects are graded either with numbers or pass/fail marks.
Subjects with two weekly hours are graded with numbers, while subjects with one weekly hour are given a pass/fail mark. A failed performance in an elective subject corresponds to a weak (4) grade when deciding on the student’s transfer to the next grade.
A student advances to the next grade if they successfully complete all the required studies in the curriculum for their grade. If a student has a failed performance in one subject, they can demonstrate acceptable competence in that subject in a separate exam (conditional exam) and thus advance to the next grade.
The final assessment is carried out based on the given national criteria. The general and subject-specific assessment criteria are mentioned in the school’s curriculum.
1. In school, one behaves and speaks appropriately and respectfully towards others.
2. The instructions of teachers and other adults in the school are to be followed.
3. Arrive on time for lessons. Keep necessary supplies with you. Complete assigned tasks.
4. Mobile devices (phone, earphones, etc.) are to be kept in the classroom mobile park during lessons and kept silent. They may be used with the teacher’s permission in health-related situations for example. Mobile devices are not used in organized events and during indoor breaks. I eat without a mobile device.
5. Take care of the school’s property as well as your own and others’ belongings. The student is liable for any damages caused.
6. The teacher may confiscate disruptive items for the remainder of the lesson, and the principal for the rest of the day. The school does not compensate for personal items that are unnecessary during the school day.
7. Outdoor clothing and headwear are not to be worn during lessons or in the dining hall. Headwear must be removed and left in the cloakroom before moving to the dining hall.
8. One must not come to school under the influence of substances or with a hangover. Psychoactive substances or similar products are not allowed to be brought or used.
9. Eating and drinking during lessons is prohibited. Energy drinks are not to be consumed during the school day. The teacher has the right to confiscate drinks.
10. The school day is spent within the school grounds. One may only leave the school grounds with the permission of the principal or a teacher. There is no lingering in parking lots, bicycle racks, and moped parking during the school day.
11. Breaks are spent outdoors unless otherwise announced.
12. Unauthorized use of artificial intelligence and copying (i.e., plagiarism) during school work is prohibited. It is comparable to cheating.
13. During school trips and school excursions, the school’s rules and traffic regulations must be followed.
14. Vehicles are to be parked in designated places during the school day so as not to disturb rescue and maintenance traffic. Bicycles are to be left in bicycle racks. Mopeds and scooters are to be parked in their designated place. Moped cars, etc., are to be left in the parking lot of Kansanpuisto field or the yard of Kuumolatalo.
- Students must take care of the items they bring to school.
- Respect others’ property.
- Only bring tools necessary for schoolwork during the day. Valuable items should not be brought to school. Nothing valuable should be left in pockets or backpacks.
- The majority of the school is under video surveillance, but not all areas can be monitored.
- Any thefts or suspected thefts that occur or are suspected in the school premises must always be reported to both the principal and the police.
- Theft is a crime against the owner, and the owner (the person whose property has been stolen) must file a police report.
- Liability for compensation is determined based on the criminal investigation. The school has no automatic liability for compensation.
