The homeroom teacher’s task is to ensure the realization of educational goals for their own class. The homeroom teacher gets to know their students and handles their matters confidentially. The homeroom teacher is also the primary contact person between the parents of their students and the school.
The homeroom teacher holds a session/class every week to share necessary information, discuss common class matters, etc.
The homeroom teacher organizes parent meetings in the way they see fit. Homeroom teachers are available as needed during parent evenings.

The success of schoolwork depends on a shared understanding of educational and learning goals between home and school. Guardians have the primary responsibility for the upbringing of the child. The school is responsible for the education and learning of the student when they are a member of the school community. The school staff aims to cooperate with guardians so that they can support their children’s goal-oriented learning and schooling.
Collaboration between home and school is implemented at both community and individual levels. The goal of shared educational responsibility is to promote the student’s:
- learning conditions
- security
- well-being
Parents are responsible for ensuring that students are not absent from school without reason.
In case of illness, the school hopes that parents will report the absence as soon as possible.
The contact person is the homeroom teacher.
If a student is absent from school due to illness on the test day, it must be reported to the relevant teacher.
Absences also affect evaluations. A significant number of absences can lead to failing the course.
The school wishes that family vacation trips coincide with school holidays. However, if a student needs time off from school work, leave should be applied for as follows:
1) Leave must be applied for at least a week before the start of the leave. Otherwise, leave will not be granted. Applications submitted too close to the leave will not have time to go through the necessary processing, and the principal is not available every day to grant leave.
2) The homeroom teacher grants leaves of 3 days or less.
3) Leaves longer than three days should be applied for from the principal.
4) Leave applications are to be filled out in Wilma (Guardian logs in from the website janakkala.inschool.fi (not via mobile app).
Applications and decisions -> Create a new application -> select the desired form)
5) The student must gather assignments from teachers for the leave period, which must be completed upon return to school.
The purpose of student assessment is to support and guide the student in a positive way and encourage them in their studies.
The student is assessed throughout the school year in all school interaction situations based on continuous monitoring as well as test results and other performances.
The awarding of grades is based on the objectives set out in the curriculum. The basis for assessment includes the goals set by the school for its own operations and the knowledge and skills required for each subject as well as the student’s progress in them.
At Turengin Yhteiskoulu, students receive a mid-term assessment in Wilma at the end of the autumn semester and a school year certificate in spring. The school year certificate assesses the student’s performance throughout the school year.
Electives are graded either numerically or with a pass/fail mark.
Two-hour subjects are graded numerically and one-hour subjects with a pass/fail mark. A failed elective corresponds to a poor (4) grade when determining the student’s transfer to the next class.
A student advances to the next grade if they successfully complete all subjects and subject groups specified in the curriculum for their grade level. If a student has a failed performance in one subject, they may demonstrate acceptable competence in that subject in a separate exam (conditional exam) and thus advance to the next grade.
Final assessment is carried out based on the established national criteria. General and subject-specific assessment criteria are mentioned in the school’s curriculum.
1. At school, one behaves respectfully and talks appropriately to others.
2. Instructions from teachers and other school adults must be followed.
3. Students arrive on time for classes. School supplies should be brought along. Assigned tasks must be completed.
4. Mobile phones must be kept in the classroom phone park and kept on silent during class. Mobile phones may only be used with the teacher’s permission. The teacher may confiscate the phone for the duration of the class and the principal for the entire school day. Smartwatches are also collected during tests. Phones are not used in the cafeteria.
5. Care must be taken of the school’s property as well as personal and others’ belongings. Students are liable for damages caused.
6. The teacher may confiscate items causing disturbances for the duration of the class and the principal for the rest of the day. The school does not compensate for personal belongings that are unnecessary during the school day.
7. Outerwear and headgear are not to be worn in classes or the cafeteria. Headgear must be removed and left in the coat rack before proceeding to the cafeteria.
8. No one may come to school under the influence of substances or with a hangover. No substances or similar products may be brought or used.
9. Eating and drinking are prohibited during classes. Energy drinks may not be consumed during the school day. The teacher has the right to confiscate drinks.
10. The school day is spent on school premises. Students may only leave the school premises with permission from the principal or a teacher. Parking areas, bike racks, and moped parking are off-limits during breaks.
11. Breaks are to be spent outside unless otherwise stated.
12. When doing schoolwork, unauthorized use of artificial intelligence and plagiarism is prohibited. This is comparable to cheating.
13. On school trips and excursions, school rules and traffic regulations must be followed.
14. Vehicles must be parked in designated areas during the school day to not interfere with emergency and maintenance traffic. Bicycles are left in bike racks. Mopeds and scooters are left in designated parking areas. Moped cars, etc., are left in the parking lot of Kansanpuiston field or on the premises of Kuumolatalo.
- Students must take care of the items they bring to school.
- Respect for others’ property is essential.
- Only the necessary tools for schoolwork should be brought to school. Valuable items should not be brought to school. Nothing valuable should be left in pockets or backpacks.
- The school is predominantly under video camera surveillance, but not all areas can be monitored.
- Any thefts or suspected thefts that occur in the school premises must always be reported to both the principal and the police.
- Theft is a crime for which the victim (the person whose property has been stolen) must file a police report.
- Liability for damages is determined based on the criminal investigation. The school has no automatic liability for compensation.
