The municipality provides grants to private roads for which a road association (tiekunta) has been established under the Private Roads Act. Grants are awarded only for the section of road used by permanent residences. The information on road associations in the Private Road Register maintained by the National Land Survey must be up to date, and the road association must otherwise comply with the Private Roads Act in its operations.
Grants are distributed according to the grant criteria approved by the technical committee, based on the actual maintenance costs presented by the road association.
