On April 25, 2024, the beloved choir piece “The Boy Who Watched the Treetops” will be performed by third graders at the Turenki sports hall.

Third-grade students have been practicing concert pieces all school year, and the grand finale concert will feature compositions by Jean Sibelius and other pieces inspired by nature. Through music, the audience will wander in the forest, meet mythical beings, and peek into Finland’s Kalevala history. The choir of over 300 children will be conducted by choir pedagogue Ismo Savimäki. The choir will be accompanied by a chamber orchestra made up of students from the Sibelius Academy, led by Sini Virtanen. The dramatic whole of the concert has been planned by ARX art educator Taina Maria Savimäki, with lighting design by Juha Rouhikoski. The dancers’ choreography has been designed by Heidi Wasko.

The concert is produced as part of the schools’ Cultural Path in collaboration with the Cultural Center ARX, the Sibelius Academy, and the municipality of Janakkala. A voluntary admission fee can be donated for the benefit of our war veterans here.

Janakkalan Sanomat will record the concert for its pages, and it will be available as paid content for 2 weeks.
