Janakkala invests heavily in entrepreneur-driven activities

On Monday October 5, 2026, the sub-committee for group governance and vitality, which met, approved a set of measures to increase Janakkala municipality’s entrepreneurial orientation.

The aim is to move towards a unified, municipality-wide entrepreneurial operating culture. Strengthening vitality is one of the municipality’s key strategic objectives. To achieve the goal, it is essential that Janakkala offers companies a smooth operating environment.

– We want to increase dialogue, better understand the everyday life of businesses and, above all, strengthen an entrepreneurial approach as part of preparation and decision-making. Janakkala’s vitality is largely created by the fact that companies operating here have the conditions to succeed, grow and invest, says Chief Executive Riikka Moilanen.

The measures approved by the sub-committee and to be implemented during the current and coming year are:

  1. Dialogue and trust. A model for an entrepreneurs’ council will be launched, in which councillors, entrepreneurs and the municipality’s municipal official leadership meet through company visits and joint discussions. Events will be held 1–2 times a year. The first entrepreneurs’ council will be held in Tervakoski on 19 November 2026.
  2. Decision-makers visiting companies. The sub-committee will visit especially micro and small enterprises on four days a year. The aim is to increase understanding of companies’ everyday operations, needs and areas for improving the operating environment. The first outreach day will be held on 26 January 2027.
  3. Taking an enterprise perspective into account in preparation. Training will be organised for the municipality’s preparers so that an enterprise perspective is recognised as part of preparation.
  4. Making the business sector part of strategy implementation. Improving companies’ operating conditions and business-friendliness will be included in the implementation programme of the municipal strategy under preparation.
  5. Active company outreach. The planned and active contacting of companies will be strengthened and the objective will be taken into account in the service agreement of Janakkala Business Development Ltd. The aim of the outreach is to identify companies’ needs, growth and investment plans and potential challenges more proactively than at present.
  6. Diverse entrepreneur communication. The municipality will prepare an entrepreneur communications plan aimed at showcasing Janakkala’s diverse business landscape, highlighting companies of different sizes and sectors and telling positive stories about entrepreneurship, business growth, investments and successes. At the same time, communication will reinforce the image of Janakkala as entrepreneurial and a good operating environment for companies.

– The result of entrepreneurs’ 2026 municipal barometer was a wake-up call for us. At last spring’s council seminar, the council’s clear will was to change the situation and start building Janakkala into Finland’s most business-friendly municipality. We aim for this in close cooperation with the municipality, Janakkala Business Development and the Janakkala entrepreneurs’ association, says Chair of the Municipal Council Marko Ahtiainen.

The tasks of the sub-committee for group governance and vitality are to develop the municipality’s vitality and to steer and monitor companies belonging to the municipal group and associated companies.
