A new sports field is being planned and constructed in Janakkala, Hakamäki. The project timeline extends to the end of November 2024. The project will be accepted once the field meets the criteria outlined in the contract and has applied for and obtained a Class 2 sports field certificate.

Press Release 11.9.2024

The contractor proposed remedying the issues by compacting the mounds and removing the surface layer in the straight sections to achieve a level surface. The proposed corrective action was first tested in a test area and found to be effective.

As of today, the contractor has repaired the end curves. The roots of the fence posts have been leveled with a compactor. Approximately half a meter of the surface layer will be removed from the outer edge of the sports field in the straight sections, after which the mounds will be leveled from the asphalt surface with a compactor. After leveling, the contractor will re-surface the repaired areas of the sports field. The final touch will involve spray painting the surface. For the audience barrier gates, the surface will also need to be removed for about one meter. The base will be leveled after the surface removal and will be re-covered and resurfaced.

The repair will take about three weeks, and the corrective actions should be completed by 2.10.2024. Overall, the sports field project is expected to be completed by the specified project timeline, which is the end of November.

During the supervision of the sports field project, a method error and damage were observed, which has led the municipality of Janakkala to require a repair plan from the contractor.

The error that occurred during the installation of the audience barrier has made parts of the field uneven, and the field does not meet the required quality in the contract. Additionally, negligence during the installation work has damaged the elastic surface and asphalt in several places.

The contractor is expected to present a proposal for repairing the damages, and the project will not be approved before this is done. The repairs may affect the completion of the project.

Progress report 2.4.-12.8.2024

As spring and summer progressed, work on the sports field has advanced according to plan:

• The irrigation system and gutters for the field have been completed.
• The grass for the field has been sown, and the contractor will ensure its growth until the field is handed over.
• Water supply has been constructed at the junction of Tykkivajantie.
• The groundwork for the parking area of the sports field has been completed, and the foundations for the lighting have been installed.
• The area of the adjacent practice field has been leveled to the agreed elevation.
• The asphalt layers for the sports field have been laid.
• The asphalt service pathway around the field has been completed.
• The surfacing of the field has been completed. Finalization work for the performance areas is still ongoing.

• The lining of the sports field was completed on 12.8.2024
• The construction of the stone basket seats for the earth mound grandstand has started and will be completed in August-September.

The construction of the sports field has progressed as planned, and the following work phases are intended to be completed within this year.

The next phases in the work schedule are:

• Construction of drainage for part of the field
• Installation of the irrigation system piping
• Structural layers for part of the field

• Installation of growth media on the field
• Construction work for the parking area and road

28.4.2023 The positioning of the new sports field has been decided

The previous press release on 13.4.2023 stated that the final direction of the field would be determined as planning progresses. Three different options for the positioning of the field have been examined, and the technical committee decided on 27.4.2023 §99 to choose option A for the positioning of the field. Additionally, any additional costs related to unsuitable soil materials for construction in option A will be covered by the allocated funding for the investment. The minutes were verified regarding this matter in the meeting.

13.4.2023 press release

The new sports field is currently in the phase of more detailed planning, for which soil investigations have been conducted in the area and earthmoving work has begun. At the same time, planning for the service building that will be added to the area is also underway.

The current plan draft is available for download on this page. NOTE: The plan draft does not yet include the layout of the parking area, service building, or grandstands.

The positioning of the sports field will need to be revised due to the findings from soil investigations that revealed filling material on the northern side of the area (marked in red). This fill material is not suitable as a foundation for the sports area. The final orientation of the sports field will be determined as planning progresses.

It is not possible to place the field in the southern part of the area due to the fact that the slopes would become too steep after earthmoving work (marked in blue).
NOTE: In the map, the text for the earth mound grandstand is in the wrong place relative to the changed location of the field – the positioning for activities external to the field is still in progress.
