Pre-primary Education
Pre-primary education is an important period of growth in a child’s life. The aim of pre-primary education is to promote the child’s growth, development, and learning conditions, as well as to strengthen the child’s positive self-image together with the guardians. Early childhood education, pre-primary education, and basic education form a coherent continuum for the child’s growth and learning, laying the foundation for lifelong learning. In pre-primary education, pedagogy suitable for early childhood education is used, and the children’s interests are respected in organizing the teaching. Play is strongly present in the activities. In pre-primary education, the child has the right to receive support for development and learning as soon as the need for support arises.
Pre-primary education is compulsory from the beginning of the school year when the child turns six years old. Pre-primary education groups are determined annually. The total hours of pre-primary education are about 700 hours per school year. Pre-primary education is free of charge.
