Damage caused by protected birds
What is compensated?
You can apply to the vitality center for a grant for crop and animal damage caused by species protected under the Nature Conservation Act, and for a grant to prevent such damages. Read more about protected species HERE (in Finnish).
Reporting damage and applying for compensation
When damage has occurred:
- Make an electronic notification of the damage as soon as you notice it. The damage report is forwarded to the municipality’s agricultural authority, which will inspect and assess the damage and prepare a statement about it for the vitality center.
- Apply for compensation through the electronic system. Compensation must be applied for without delay after the damage has been confirmed, but in any case no later than the end of the year in which the damage occurred

Submit the paper application with attachments to the vitality center responsible for the area where the damage occurred. You can send the application to the vitality center’s register office by post, by email, by delivering it in person, or as an attachment to the vitality center’s general service form for private individuals. If you are applying for payment using the printable form, submit the payment application to the KEHA centre.
Damage prevention
You can apply for a grant through the electronic system to prevent crop and animal damages. Preventive measures for which grants may be awarded include, for example, various passive deterrents.
