What is compensated?

You can apply for compensation for crop and animal damages caused by moose and other cervids, as well as crop, animal or movable property damages caused by large carnivores (wolverine, lynx, bear, wolf).

  • Crop damage refers to harm caused by moose or large carnivores to fields, gardens, nurseries, or harvested crops.
  • Animal damage includes harm caused by moose to livestock, and by large carnivores to livestock, production animals, honey harvests, or fences, buildings, and other structures used in animal husbandry.
  • Movable property damage refers to harm caused by large carnivores to other non-living movable property not mentioned above.

Reporting the damage

  • Report the damage immediately to the officials at the Rural service unit Häme.
  • For moose damage, use form 148.
  • For large carnivore damage, report via the Vipu service or use form 131.

Compensation for damage

  • For crop damage caused by game animals, compensation is paid up to the value of the lost harvest.
  • For damage caused to livestock or other animals by game animals, compensation is paid up to the fair market value of the animal if it was killed or had to be euthanized due to the injury.
  • For movable property or livestock damage caused by large carnivores, compensation is paid up to the fair market value of the damaged property or animal.
