Turengin plots
Turenki is the largest village and administrative center of Janakkala, home to just over 7400 residents. The growth of Turenki has been significantly influenced by Finland’s oldest railway connection from Helsinki to Hämeenlinna. Local trains still transport many Turenki residents to work in both Helsinki and Tampere, although the beautiful wooden station building now houses a restaurant.
A new grade-separated interchange was completed in 2021 at the motorway junction of Turenki, which includes a bus stop and a park-and-ride area.
Watch the video about the opening of the interchange, “The revamped Virala interchange on the HKI-TRE motorway in Janakkala is opened on November 24, 2021”
Due to good transport connections, an ice cream factory was also established in Turenki, where Pingviini ice creams are still produced today.
In Turenki, you can find all the everyday commercial services, several daycares, elementary and middle schools, a high school, a sports hall, a library, and a health center. There are two swimming beaches, one of which maintains an open hole in the ice throughout the winter. From the guest marina, you can sail all the way to Tampere. The beautiful hilly terrain of the Kalpalinna ski resort is perfect for outdoor activities year-round, as well as the illuminated outdoor tracks, which are used for skiing in winter and jogging in summer. There are many events throughout the year: markets, concerts, fairs, theater productions, sports competitions, tournaments, and other summer events.
