The Turenki wetlands are one of the most well-known bird-watching locations in Kanta-Häme. The back wetlands are best approached from Liinalammintie and Ratatie, while the front wetlands can be accessed from Harvialantie. The wetlands are remnants of the now-closed Turenki sugar factory. The terrain of the front wetlands is more open, while the back wetlands, which are more wooded, are great for nightingales.

The Turenki wetlands are an all-year-round excursion destination. In winter, one can often find flocks of Twite and Little Grebes on the front wetlands, while the back wetlands host overwintering waterfowl from the drainage outlets. The breeding bird species at the wetlands are very interesting; the Spotted Crake, Black-necked Grebe, Little Ringed Plover, and Common Redstart breed in the area almost annually. In spring and autumn, the waterfowl and passerine species are truly diverse. As a wading bird location, the front wetlands are legendary.

Over the years, the wetlands have been observed to host species such as the American Golden Plover, Bronze Ibis, Eurasian Skylark, Crested Lark, Black Redstart, Yellowhammer, Blackcap, Turtle Dove, several Ruffs, Black-tailed Godwit, Common Whitethroat, and Little Bunting.
