Support for learning and schooling
Support for learning and schooling, as well as student welfare, form a comprehensive system, which means various support measures, arrangements, and practices. They aim to improve students’ well-being and learning, as well as increase the joy of schooling. Support measures can be communal or individual and are planned in cooperation with students and guardians.
The three levels of support for learning and schooling are general, intensified, and special support. The level is determined by the amount and strength of the support measures.
In general support, measures may include:
- opetuksen eriyttäminen: laajuus, syvyys, etenemisnopeus
- tukiopetus, myös ennakoiva tukiopetus
- osa-aikaisen erityisopetuksen tuki
- erityiset koejärjestelyt ja arviointimenetelmät; suullisesti täydennettävät kokeet, lisäaikaa kokeisiin
- kerhot ja iltapäivätoiminta
- tilapäinen kouluohjaajan tuki
- samanaikaisopetus
- tilapäinen intensiiviryhmä tason mukaan, esim. luku- ja kirjoitusryhmät
- yhteistoiminnallinen oppiminen
Intensified support means enhancing preventive general support measures both quantitatively and qualitatively, as well as organizing teaching in sufficiently small groups. Forms of support include, among others, differentiation, remedial teaching, various forms of simultaneous teaching, part-time special education, student welfare, and close cooperation with parents.
If the aforementioned support measures are insufficient, the student has the right to special support. Special support consists of special education that supports learning and other support that aids schooling. Special support requires an administrative decision, and education is organized according to a personal plan (HOJKS). The HOJKS is created together with the student and guardians and defines, among other things, the monitoring and evaluation of the student’s progress, the student’s ability to demonstrate their competence in various ways, and pedagogical solutions that support the student, such as teaching methods, study strategies, working and communication methods, as well as learning materials.
Basic education can be completed in many different ways. In Janakkala, the following pathways that consider individual needs are offered for completing basic education: flexible basic education class (JOPO), rehabilitation class, preparatory class for basic education, special classes at Haukankallio School, Varatie classes, Aava School, special classes at Seminaari School, special classes at Saaristen School, and hospital school.
