The importance of sports and well-being is continuously being emphasized at Turenki Community School. Currently, there are over 30 sports-focused upper secondary schools in Finland. Sports classes provide a special educational option for students interested in sports, athletics, and their own well-being.
The key principles of specialized physical education include offering a more diverse range of physical education, increasing the amount of physical activity compared to traditional physical education, supporting the goal-oriented practice of a personal sport, and adopting a healthy lifestyle.
The activities of the sports class are managed by the physical education teachers at our school. We aim to collaborate actively with local and nearby sports clubs. At the same time, the sports classes will naturally connect with the continuation of the sports line implemented at Janakkala High School.

The sports class of Turenki Community School is open to all residents of Janakkala.

  • The focus of the education is on developing general athletic skills and basic physical skills (e.g., strength, speed, endurance, flexibility, coordination, and balance), as well as practicing body control and muscle care.
  • In other subjects, the perspective of health-related physical activity is also taken into account.
  • In the sports class, in addition to two mandatory physical education classes, there are two additional hours of physical activity for each grade level.
  • It is important to note that if a student accepts a position in the sports class, physical education will automatically become one of their elective subjects in the 8th and 9th grades.

Students studying in the sports class are selected from among the sixth-grade students who have registered, based on their school report and a diverse suitability test conducted at the end of January. The suitability test is held at the sports hall.
The arrangement of the suitability test is the responsibility of Turenki Community School. The principal is responsible for student admissions to the sports class.
  • Students participating in the suitability test will gather at the sprint track of Turenki Sports Hall, from where they will be guided forward.

  • The suitability test for 2025 will be held at the sports hall on January 29, 2025, from 8:30 AM to 2:00 PM.
  • No separate invitation will be sent for the suitability test, and the test disciplines will not be announced in advance.
