The new submerged weir of Lake Suojärvi outflow channel has been completed

At the beginning of July, the final inspection of the construction of the new submerged weir in the Lake Suojärvi outflow channel was held. The completion of the project will ease Lake Suojärvi’s water situation during dry summer seasons and will also enable fish to move upstream from Koskenjoki river in the future. The Head of land use also verified the passage of fish through the new submerged weir’s channel.

The project in its various phases has involved the Virala Region Water Protection Association, the Virala shareholders’ association, Janakkala municipality as well as local landowners and neighbors and the Vanajavesi Centre. The submerged weir is located in the Koskenjoki river that passes under Viralantie (road no. 426), slightly raising Lake Suojärvi’s mean water level and enabling fish passage.
