The municipal council approved the transfer of upper secondary school operations to Tavastia.
The municipal council of Janakkala unanimously decided to transfer the licence to organize upper secondary education to the Tavastia Education Consortium effective 1 January 2028.
The transfer brings synergies to education, strong support for the development of upper secondary school activities, broader cooperation opportunities for teachers and a wider range of courses for students. The change may also increase the attractiveness of upper secondary education provided within the municipality among young people from Janakkala.
The municipality will still decide on the number of upper secondary school sites itself.
Children and youth physical activity program approved
The municipal council approved the children and youth physical activity program for 2026–2030. The purpose of the program is to make visible the strategic guidelines and concrete objectives set for strengthening residents’ physical activity and wellbeing, and to describe the measures by which these objectives will be pursued.

Principles for a safer space in the municipality
The municipal council also approved the principles for a safer space in Janakkala municipality.
The core of the principles for a safer space is listening, understanding and interaction.

Interim report: EUR 0.2 million deficit.
The municipal council received for information a report on the implementation of the budget for the period 1 January–30 June 2026.
The finances of Janakkala municipality for the first half of 2026 have been realised largely in line with the revised budget. Combined operating revenues of the municipality and Janakkala Veden were 51.4 percent and operating expenses 49.7 percent of the annual budget as of the end of June.
The result for the January–June accounting period was approximately EUR 0.2 million in deficit. The result was clearly better than the corresponding period of the previous year, but it includes about EUR 0.6 million of one-off income from the corporatization of Janakkalan sote-kiinteistöt Oy.
The items related to the zoning of Rastikangas and Tervakoski’s Huuna were approved as proposed.
Two council initiatives were submitted: on strengthening everyday recognition of neurodiversity in basic education and early childhood education in Janakkala, and on strengthening young people’s safety skills and improving access to assistance in threatening situations.
