The floor of Tervakoski Seuratalo is being repaired due to moisture damage

The investigation found that the underlying cause of the moisture damage to the floor of the lobby area at Tervakoski Seuratalo is moisture in the building’s subfloor, which was revealed by the deep cleaning. Moisture damage was observed at the Seuratalo on 17.11.2025 after the deep cleaning carried out by Compass Group on 12.11.2025.  Janakkala municipality and Compass Group Finland investigated the cause of the moisture damage together. A technical investigation was commissioned jointly from an external expert (before the floor renovation began). The technical investigation was carried out on 23.2.2026 by Afry Finland Oy.

The technical investigation concluded that there had been moisture in the subfloor of the Seuratalo lobby area for some time. The investigation shows that the deep cleaning carried out by Compass Group on 12.11.2025 revealed moisture that was already present in the floor before cleaning; it did not cause it. The combined effect of the deep cleaning and the pre-existing moisture in the floor made the previously existing problem with moisture in the floor structure visible. Moisture rising from the ground in the subfloor was also noted in a 2018 investigation produced by Sweco. 

Before commissioning the investigation it was stated that, if the moisture damage is clearly found to have been caused by Compass Group’s actions, the company will compensate for the damage incurred. The deep cleaning carried out by the company brought forward the need for floor repairs. Compass Group will contribute a fixed sum of 5,000 euros to the repair costs.

A floor renovation has begun at the Seuratalo, which is expected to last a few months. The cinema and the adjoining toilets are out of use. Other activities at the Seuratalo will continue as normal. The renovation work may cause noise in other areas.
