Nature surveys are underway in Turenki and Tervakoski areas
Janakkala has started the 2026 nature surveys in Turenki and Tervakoski areas. Fieldwork is currently underway, and the nature surveyor can be seen moving about on land owned by the municipality during the spring and summer.
Janakkala joined the Luontoviisaat kunnat network in 2023 as the first municipality in Finland. By joining the network, the municipality committed to mapping valuable natural sites on the land and water areas it owns, such as endangered habitat types and protected areas. The nature surveys also serve as important background material for land use planning, since land use legislation requires planning to be based on sufficient studies.
In 2025 the surveys targeted parts of the Turenki area as well as all municipal land areas located in Leppäkoski and Virala. In 2026 the work will cover the remaining areas, which are significant in size: 427 hectares in Turenki and 371.5 hectares in Tervakoski.
