Municipal executive: Study into the future of the swimming hall
The municipal executive will promote decision-making on the future of the swimming hall at its next meeting on September 14, 2026.
The municipal executive is setting up a steering group to study the future of the swimming hall. Its task will be to form an overall picture of the future options for Janakkala’s swimming hall services. The options to be examined are renovation of the existing swimming hall, construction of a new swimming hall, and organizing swimming hall services through cooperation options, for example with Kiipula.
In addition, the municipal executive will decide on a proposal to transfer the responsibility for organizing upper secondary education to Tavastia. The education committee proposes the transfer unanimously; the municipal council will make the final decision.
Detailed planning will streamline traffic in Rastikangas
The municipal executive is proposing the approval of an amendment to the detailed plan for Tervakoski’s Huuna, the extension of Rastikankaantie and the southwestern part of Rastikangas.
In Huuna the detailed plan amendment will create an area for small detached houses, a park and an area for buildings and facilities serving municipal technical services. The zoning solution will supplement the plot offering in Tervakoski.
The detailed planning for Rastikangas will create better access to the lot in the southwestern part of the industrial and business area and, in the long term, prepare for improved traffic flow on Turengintie. A new street connection, via Rastilantie and Rastikankaantie to Turengintie, will partly calm the section of Rastilantie that runs through the village-like residential area.
Interim report results in line with expectations
On the municipal executive’s agenda is also a report on the implementation of the budget for the period January 1 – June 30, 2026.
The finances of the municipality of Janakkala have in the first half of 2026 been realized largely in accordance with the revised budget. The combined operating revenues of the municipality and Janakkala Water were, at the end of June, 51.4 percent and operating expenses 49.7 percent of the full-year budget. The budget balancing measures taken in the spring are not yet clearly reflected in the June results.
The result for the January–June financial period was a deficit of about 0.2 million euros. The result was clearly better than in the corresponding period last year, but it includes about 0.6 million euros of one-off revenues from the corporatization of Janakkalan sote-kiinteistöt oy. The interim report also addresses the implementation of strategic objectives.
– Janakkala’s finances have moved in a better direction, and the adjustment measures already show in the financial results. The situation is nevertheless still tight, as the year is forecast to end in deficit. There is also uncertainty related to the rest of the year, for example regarding tax revenues, employment costs, personnel expenses and interest rate developments. Therefore strict financial management must continue and preparations must be made for the possibility that the final result for the year may still change, says chief executive Riikka Moilanen.
Labor demand has weakened in Janakkala
The municipal executive will also be presented with an employment review. At the end of July, Janakkala had 740 unemployed jobseekers, and the share of unemployed jobseekers in the labour force was 9.8 percent. The situation was still better than in the South Häme employment area, Kanta-Häme and the whole country.
Demand for labor has weakened. In January–July 2026 a total of 392 new open vacancies were reported in Janakkala, which was 179 vacancies, or 31.3 percent, fewer than a year earlier. As a result, job placement and job seeking now focus more than before on cooperation with employers as well as network-based and personalized business services.
The municipality’s share of unemployment benefits was about 1.11 million euros in January–July 2026, which was 14.9 percent more than a year earlier.
