LUMO program draft on display until July 31

The draft of Janakkala municipality’s nature diversity program, the LUMO program, is on public display from May 26 to July 31, 2026 (TekL May 19, 2026 § 91). The notice will be on display throughout summer 2026 on Janakkala municipality’s website (in Finnish). The documents can be found in the attachments to the technical committee meeting (in Finnish).

The purpose of Janakkala municipality’s LUMO program is to guide and promote the work carried out in the municipality to safeguard biodiversity. At the same time, the program aims to make biodiversity part of the municipality’s everyday life through various planned measures and ways of working.

The actual LUMO program to be implemented consists of three objectives and the measures under them. The first objective relates to municipal operations, the second to cooperation between different actors, and the third to increasing awareness of nature:

  1. objective: Taking biodiversity into account more comprehensively in municipal operations.
  2. objective: Safeguarding biodiversity locally.
  3. objective: Increasing nature awareness and improving the accessibility of the municipality’s nature sites.

Measures of the LUMO program will be carried out on municipal land and through cooperation between municipal actors. Through the measures of objective 2, i.e. diverse cooperation, the measures may also extend to private lands through voluntary actions.

The preparation of the LUMO program will include participatory planning, i.e. a draft will be put on display to which residents and decision-makers can submit additions and amendment proposals. The program with its appendices will be finalized in early autumn after the display period. The completed LUMO program will be considered and approved by the municipal council in autumn 2026.

Information about nature conservation areas is available to everyone in the Karpalo map service (in Finnish). A compilation of Janakkala’s nature conservation areas can also be found on the environmental protection web pages.

The appendices to the final LUMO program will include at least a list of nature conservation areas, maps of the nature conservation areas and/or natural monuments, and the composition of the Janakkala Nature‑Wise Municipalities working group. During the display period, residents can also express their views on which appendices are desired for the LUMO program.

The LUMO program resident and decision‑maker info session will be held today, Thursday June 4, 2026 at 17:00 at the municipal hall.

Any opinions concerning the LUMO program must be submitted in writing no later than July 31, 2026 at 15:00 by post or to the visiting address
