Harviala partial master plan comes into effect

The Harviala partial master plan came into effect on April 21, 2026. The Janakkala municipal council unanimously approved the plan on March 2, 2026 (§ 13), and no appeals were filed against the plan to the Administrative Court of Hämeenlinna. The smooth approval process demonstrates a shared determination to develop and generate growth in the Harviala area over the long term.

The entry into force of the Harviala partial master plan is a significant step towards a strategically aligned, highly attractive Janakkala. The plan enables the development and growth of the Harviala area, especially from the perspective of expanding housing. The plan designates new residential areas to be subject to detailed planning mainly in the areas between Hiidenjoki river and Harviala school; in addition, the plan places particular emphasis on improving mobility, green areas, and the protection of the cultural environment and specific natural values.

In an area with a detailed plan, the master plan serves only as guidance when amending the detailed plan. In other areas the master plan more closely directs land use and construction. For example, in sparsely populated areas the plan must be followed when planning new construction or the renovation of an old building of cultural-historical value. The plan also sets restrictions on actions, for example concerning measures that would alter the landscape.
