Declarations of interests and the register of interests

According to Section 84 of the new Municipal Act, certain municipal officials and representatives must publicly declare their interests that may be significant in the performance of trust and official duties. This provision has been in effect since June 1, 2017.

The aim of declaring interests is to promote the transparency and openness of municipal decision-making.

Interests are reported to the municipal audit committee, which will inform the municipal council of the declarations and maintain a separate register of interests that is published in a public network.

The obligation to report applies to

  • Members and deputy members of the municipal executive
  • Chairperson and vice-chairperson of the municipal executive
  • Members and deputy members of the technical committee
  • Members and deputy members of the permit sub-committee
  • Members and deputy members of the management board of Janakkala Water
  • Chairperson and vice-chairperson of the municipal council
  • Chairperson and vice-chairperson of the education and culture committee
  • Chairperson and vice-chairperson of the welfare committee
  • Chairperson and vice-chairperson of the municipal audit committee
  • Chairperson of the central municipal election committee
  • Chief executive of the municipality
  • Presenters of the municipal executive, committees, divisions, and management boards

Interests to be declared

  • Management positions and trust positions in companies and other organizations engaged in business activities
  • Significant wealth
  • Other interests that may be significant in the performance of trust and official duties
