Moving Family
Family exercise is a form of physical activity that the whole family and close friends – children from toddlers to teenagers, parents, grandparents, godparents, and friends – can engage in together. It is active togetherness where adults move just as much as children.
Family exercise can be spontaneous daily activity based on the possibilities of the local environment, whether indoors or outdoors. It can also involve goal-oriented guided activities, community and corporate family sports days, or family holiday exercise. Interaction and joint movement are essential, ensuring that participants of different ages and skill levels are considered.
With family exercise suitable for daily life, it is possible to reach a variety of families and even less active adults. The goal is to find natural ways to move and spend time together, thereby enhancing the well-being of the whole family.
Family exercise is quality time that means a lot for children’s social, psychological, and physical development and provides adults with unforgettable moments. In family groups, adults and children meet each other, and parents receive support for their parenthood from other families.
We have designed a Christmas calendar for family exercise, where each day has its own fun and activating task. The purpose of the calendar is to bring joy of movement together to families during December. Download the Christmas calendar for your family from here.
Incorporating shared movement and activities into busy daily life can sometimes feel challenging. We have created printable materials for families that make exercising together fun and exciting. You can pick up ready-printed bingo sheets and an activity chart from libraries or swimming halls to help increase shared daily exercise. You can also print the materials from below:

Together as a family towards an active daily life project
This page has been produced as part of the Together as a family towards an active daily life project in 2024. The project has received state funding for promoting an active lifestyle from the South Finland Regional State Administrative Agency. The content of the project has been designed to fit into the Moving Family program, which is part of the national Moving initiative.
The goal is to increase overall activity among children and young people. Families are encouraged to be more active together and influence the physical fitness development of children and young people.
The project aims to enhance the municipality’s sports communication and highlight family exercise opportunities while increasing awareness of the importance of daily activity. Various municipal departments and the Oma Häme welfare area will be involved in the project. The sports services will be responsible for organizing the project, while other partners will act as links in reaching the target group.
