Janakkala’s 160th anniversary will be celebrated especially during the celebratory week, which culminates in birthday festivities on Saturday, October 10 at Seuratalo in Tervakoski (Seuranaukio 3). During the week a varied program will be arranged for Janakkala residents of all ages, from babies to grandparents! Page will be updated.
Monday, Oct. 5
Elderly Week celebration dance at Seuratalo 1–4 PM
On the dance floor we will spin to the rhythm of Paula Rouhila’s orchestra and socialize over the café’s treats. There is a bus service from Turenki to the event. More information will be updated soon.
Tuesday, Oct. 6
A Taste of History — lecture event at Turenki Main Library 6–7 PM
The locally known, also TV-featured Menneisyyden etsijät will come to lecture on the largest archaeological finds in the Janakkala area and to tell about the latest discoveries.
Iloa Arjesta fair at Välkky School Center 4:30–6:30 PM
The Iloa Arjesta event is aimed at older adults and follows the national Elderly Week theme. Welcome to hear presentations by Janakkala psychotherapist Heli Pruukki, to visit various exhibitors and associations. A café will also be operating on site. Buses will transport attendees from different parts of Janakkala. More information will be updated soon.

Meidän metsä (Our forest) – Opening of Janakkala Early Childhood Education’s joint exhibition from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM and 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM
To celebrate the anniversary year, Janakkala Early Childhood Education is planning and creating a joint exhibition by children in the lobby of Janakkala Main Library. In this large collaborative project, every early childhood education group and every child will have the opportunity to take part in planning and creating the exhibition in an age-appropriate way, leaving their own mark for everyone to see. The official opening events will be held in the morning and evening in the lobby of the Main Library. Both are open to everyone, although the morning opening is especially intended for visits by early childhood education groups. The exhibition opens at 9:00 AM and will be on display in the Main Library’s exhibition gallery throughout October during library opening hours.
From 9:00 to 10:30 AM, exhibition opening for nearby daycare centers and children’s groups, with the opportunity to visit at any time during the session. A storytelling and musical program will take place from 9:00 to 9:30 AM, led by art educator and cultural producer Satu Ristola. A guided exhibition tour will be held from 9:30 to 10:00 AM, followed by atmospheric piano music performed by Ulla Koskunen from 10:00 to 10:30 AM.
From 5:30 to 7:00 PM, exhibition opening for the whole family, offering families the opportunity to visit the exhibition together. Pianist virtuoso Stefanie Tuurna will perform atmospheric piano music from 5:00 to 5:30 PM.
The opening program will also feature the My Dress Is a Canvas performance from 6:00 to 7:00 PM. In the performance, dancer Anniina Ukkonen and pianist Stefanie Tuurna improvise together while wearing white dresses. The audience becomes part of the performance by drawing and writing forest-themed messages on the performers’ dresses with markers. In this way, every participant helps create part of the story, turning the performance into an interactive and living work of art.

Taiderengas open art exhibition on display at Seuratalo from 1 to 7 PM
The Taiderengas art exhibition will be on display, featuring a wide selection of visual art from the municipality’s art collection. The exhibition is open from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM on both days. A guided art tour will begin at 5:00 PM and last approximately 45 minutes. To conclude both days, wonderful concerts will be held in the main hall of Tervakosken Seuratalo from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM. On Thursday, pianist virtuoso Iiro Komulainen will perform, and on Friday, the program will feature a choir concert.

Youth event #160VIBAT and rap artist Kid1
At Välkky School Center 5:30–7:30 PM
Kid1 is known for his energetic live shows, catchy choruses and positive, melodic rap that also shows influences from pop and R&B. His songs have already been streamed millions of times, and he has performed across Finland at clubs, festivals and various events. Come spend the best Friday evening of autumn in good company, enjoy live music and celebrate Janakkala’s 160-year journey. More information will be updated soon.

Municipal offices, schools, and daycares will spend the day in the spirit of times gone by. Join in too and dress in an old-fashioned style.

Market Square from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM
Market vendors will bring plenty of activity both indoors and outdoors.
Sign up as a market vendor or exhibitor for a free sales space either indoors or outdoors. Indoor vendors can use tables provided by Tervakosken Seuratalo. Outdoor vendors should bring their own tent and/or table. Vendors must be present at least from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, but may stay until the event ends at 4:00 PM if they wish.

Sebastian the Clown
In the first half of the birthday celebrations children will be entertained by Sebastian the Clown in two captivating performances.
The first performance, shown on the cinema screen, is Puppet Theatre – The Magician’s Apprentice at 10:30 AM. The second performance is Sebastian the Clown’s Magic Show in the main hall at 12:00 PM. Between the performances magic balloons will be handed out.

Hilariously Funny Comedian – XL SAMI
One of the main performers in the main hall will be the hilariously funny comedian XL Sami, who will take the stage at Tervakosken Seuratalo with his stand-up show! This teddy bear-like man is wildly funny and warm-hearted, with humor that appeals to audiences of all kinds. Sami Huhtala is also known as a top-level bench press athlete and multiple world champion.
A varied program in the main hall from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM. The stage will also feature a short play, a brass quartet, and poetry recitations.

Street Food Carnival and Café
The Street Food Carnival food trucks will be at Tervakosken Seuratalo throughout the day, serving a variety of savory treats to suit many tastes! Indoors, the café will be open from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, offering sweet treats to enjoy with your coffee.

The PAW Patrol’s ship is caught in a mysterious storm and is shipwrecked on a tropical island teeming with dinosaurs. Theatre ILMI Ö’s “Forest Mosaic” baby theatre at Välkky at 3 PM

Theatre ILMI Ö. Forest Mosaic is a gentle and multisensory baby theatre performance in which the space is transformed piece by piece into an enchanting forest through live music, movement and beautiful nature imagery.
How is a landscape painted? What do stones have to tell? Where will the play lead? The performance invites babies and their adults to experience first shared theatre experiences in a safe and calm environment where there is room for wonder and interaction.
The warm-hearted, approximately 30-minute performance is designed especially for babies and their loved ones. It offers sensory experiences for all the senses and shared, memorable moments for the whole family.
