In Janakkala the Children’s Culture Weeks on May 11-24, 2026 will be celebrated with a cheerful and varied program. Over the two weeks there is a rich selection of family events in Turenki, Tervakoski and Tarinmaa: theatre, astronomy, music, films and art workshops – most events free of charge.

PROGRAM 2026

Art exhibition opening, Monday May 11, 17:00–19:00

Art exhibition opening, Children’s international art exhibition, Janakkala main library
The exhibition is compiled from the international archive of the Children’s and Young People’s Art Centre, which contains nearly 110,000 works from about 130 countries. 25 works on display. At the opening there will be guided tours of the exhibition, paper theatre performances (fairy tale room, see times) and nonstop art workshops: origami paper-folding workshop and visual arts workshop (library foyer).

Puppet Theatre Marjuttu: Our Family Is Not Your Family at 17:00 and 18:00, kamishibai theatre (paper theatre performance), recommended age 4+, duration 20 min. Explore different kinds of families around the world!

Family Satumuskari, Tarinmaa School, family café
An open family singing and play session for everyone. Welcome to sing, make music and play together and to learn about the association’s activities. Free entry. Organized by Janakkala MLL, in cooperation with Janakkala municipality.


Planetarium, Wednesday May 13 at 17:30 and 18:15

Guided planetarium shows by the astronomical association Ursa, Tervakoski Community Hall auditorium
Duration 30 min, recommended age 5+. When the lights go out inside the planetarium, the cosmos is revealed in miniature. The registration link for seat reservations opens on May 4, 2026. Participation requires pre-registration, as places are limited. Free entry. Organized by Janakkala municipality.


Children’s Movie Friday on May 15, Kino Tervakoski

At 15:00 Bamse and the Secret of the Sea (S) Animation, family film, Finnish-dubbed, duration 1 h 10 min, ticket 9€. Bamse, Pomppi and Kilpinen have adventures again! A family adventure full of friendship, surprises and thrilling moments.

At 17:00 Pets on a Train (K7) Animation, Finnish-dubbed, duration 1 h 28 min, ticket 9€. The French hit animation Pets on a Train is a fun and fast-paced adventure that the whole family will enjoy.

Theatre Hevosenkenkä: The Invisible Child, Sunday May 17 at 15:00

Theatre Hevosenkenkä, Tove Jansson: The Invisible Child theatre performance, Välkky school centre
The Invisible Child is Tove Jansson’s wise story about the girl Ninny, who, with Little My’s resourcefulness and the love of the Moomin family, becomes visible again. For children aged 3 and up. Duration 45 min. Free entry. At the event Janakkala MLL buffet (payment methods: cash/MobilePay). Organized by Janakkala municipality, in cooperation with Janakkala MLL.

The Sandman’s pyjama parties will be held on Wednesday May 20, 17:00–19:00 at Janakkala main library in Turenki and on Thursday May 21, 17:00–19:00 at Tervakoski library.
At 17:00 and 17:30 Puppet Theatre Marjuttu: Sandman and the Lost Items. A narrative adventure in which the Sandman’s lost items are searched for.
At 17:45–18:15 Mr. Hakkarainen: Come hug Mr. Hakkarainen and take a photo together. The Mr. Hakkarainen book exhibition (Mauri Kunnas) will be on display.
At 18:00–19:00 Disco: Great fun and a dance competition. Come dance even in your pyjamas and bring a stuffed toy! Free entry. Organized by Janakkala municipality.

Tiri-Tiri-Teijaa!, Sunday May 24, 14:30–16:30

A family event at Janakkala’s Laurinmäki Yellow House. The bird-feeder café opens already at 14:00. Free entry.

In the unforgettable creativity and nature event you get to be seen and heard:
14:30 Make your own instrument! Is it a water whistle, a sand rattle or a pinecone shaker?
Put words to your own song! Is it about flying, blooming or sneaking?
15:00 Nature trail: play, sing, observe with binoculars! Dance with Tirppa and Rusettilainen!
What will you see and learn on the nature trail? Bring your own water bottle!
15:30 Yard spotting, drawing, snacks, grilling, face painting! “The gutter troll boy drums on the gutter drum” and the lute instrument accompanies the bird choir.
16:30 Take home pleasant memories, your own spotting drawings and songs. Keep singing and dancing with the birds for as long as summer lasts!
