Janakkala municipality is involved in a club project aimed at providing students with as diverse clubs as possible in collaboration with partners. The project supports the educational provider’s goals by increasing school enjoyment, reducing bullying, increasing physical activity (with at least one sports club at the school), and enhancing collaboration with associations, businesses, and clubs.

School clubs are a free fundamental activity of schools, offering students the opportunity to spend quality free time with schoolmates. Clubs are a counterbalance to schoolwork, not just a continuation of lessons from morning to evening. In school clubs, children and young people can pursue interests and engage in activities they are passionate about. There are no performance pressures in the clubs.
Club leaders include teachers, parents, and partners (e.g., local sports clubs).

Harrastamisen malli

In Janakkala municipality, the Finnish Model of Leisure Activities project is in its first year, with the main goal of enabling every child and young person to enjoy a free hobby during school hours. The Finnish model combines listening to children and young people’s hobby wishes, coordinating existing good practices and methods, and collaboration between schools and hobby providers. The range of activities has been tailored according to the interests expressed by children and young people in previously conducted surveys and/or interviews with the activity coordinator.

Janakkala’s model of leisure activities is based on the idea that every child residing in the municipality should have an equal opportunity to participate in hobbies. This means, among other things, that hobby activities are available in all municipal primary schools, all activities are free of charge and school transportation is arranged on the terms of the hobby activities when the student participates in hobbies offered at their own school. The activity coordinator can also help find new hobbies based on the child’s or young person’s interests or perhaps find solutions if challenges arise in participating in the hobby.
