Street and siting permits

The municipality grants siting and excavation permits for placing cables and other conduits and equipment on areas it owns. Decisions on the above permits are made, within a detailed plan area, by the property engineer and, outside the detailed plan area, by the technical committee.

Normal processing times for permits: A siting permit application must be submitted well in advance, at least 3 weeks before work begins. The processing time for a siting permit from receipt of the application is 2–8 weeks, depending on the number of other permits being processed simultaneously and the scale of the project. When applying for a street or excavation permit, the processing time is approx. 2 weeks. Work must not be started before an approved permit decision and/or in violation of the conditions set out in the permit decision. During holiday periods there may be delays in permit processing.

If the permit is needed in a sparsely populated area, the decision is made by the technical committee, in which case processing will take longer than usual. During holiday periods there may be exceptions in permit processing. However, we strive to keep processing times within normal limits so that the necessary work can proceed as planned.
