Event funding for 2024 was actively sought during the spring and early summer. Applications received by June 13th fit within the annual budget of €5000. The next opportunity to apply for event funding will be from January 2025 for planned events in that year.

Event funding can be applied for organizing art and cultural events in Janakkala. Eligible events include cultural activities* such as concerts, theater performances, theme days, and festivals.

What is event funding?

  • Event funding has a continuous, electronic application process, and the cultural producer decides on the distribution of event funding based on discretion and available funds (Janakkala municipality’s administrative regulations § 27.7.4)
  • A total of €5000 is allocated for event funding each year
  • The maximum funding amount for a single event is €800
  • Applications must be submitted at least two months before the planned date of the event
  • Event funding can only be granted to the same applicant once during a calendar year
  • Funding is generally granted to associations or action groups that do not receive operational support for cultural associations
  • An association already receiving operational support for cultural associations may be granted event funding if the planned event deviates significantly from the activities normally organized by the association annually.
  • The core activities of a cultural association, along with its events, are encouraged to apply for operational support, not event funding
  • Event funding is only granted for the implementation of cultural events open to all in Janakkala. Participation of local residents is not restricted based on community membership, invitation, ideological views, a higher fee deemed reasonable, or any other comparable factor

Event funding cannot be granted

  • For events that have already occurred
  • For events organized outside Janakkala municipality
  • To companies, central or regional organizations, or communities for further distribution
  • For events or projects that are primarily politically party-affiliated or religious in nature
  • For internal anniversaries, trips, events, or trainings of associations
  • For events or other projects that include election advertising or other electoral activities

* According to Section 1 of the law on cultural activities of municipalities (166/2019): “Municipal cultural activities refer to activities through which the municipality promotes the creation, participation, availability, and use of culture and art, as well as art and cultural education and cultural heritage.”

What obligations does receiving event funding entail?

  • The recipient of event funding is required to publicly mention, in a suitable context, that Janakkala municipality has supported the activity. Janakkala municipality reserves the right to use the event information and possible logo in its communications and marketing, but decides where and how. The use of Janakkala municipality’s logo in the event organizer’s materials will always be agreed upon separately
  • The recipient of funding must prepare a report based on paid receipts upon request, which shows the use of the grant for the intended purpose
  • Event funding can only be used for the purpose for which it was granted based on the decision made from the application
  • Changes to the purpose of use of event funding or extensions of the time for use must always be requested in writing from Janakkala’s cultural services. Justified changes are possible, thus avoiding the return of the paid grant
  • If the funding is used for a purpose other than that for which it was applied or granted, the municipality has the right to reclaim the funding
  • If the recipient of funding cannot provide an acceptable report or clarification of the use of funding within three months after the event’s conclusion, the funding may be reclaimed

How to apply for event funding?

When granting event funding, the applicant’s need for funding, the quality of the activity, broad-based involvement, and own fundraising (e.g., entrance fees) as well as the available budget at the time are taken into account. The application must provide not only the applicant’s information but also a description of the activity to be supported and a cost estimate. The cost estimate should present as accurately as possible the income and expenses related to the event and a clarification of the self-financing portion and other funding and grants requested for the event.

Event funding applications must be submitted at least two months before the planned date of the event. Please ensure you have read the above instructions and criteria for granting support before filling out the form.
