Event support for organizing cultural events
In 2025, event grants were actively applied for during spring and early summer. Applications received by June 20 were included in the final processing of event grant applications. A total of 5,000€ in event grants is distributed annually. The entire grant sum was used for applications submitted by 20 June 2025, and the event grant application is therefore closed for 2025. The next opportunity to apply for event grants will be via the application form opening on 13 January 2026 for events planned for that year. Event grants can be applied for to organize art and cultural events in Janakkala. This applies to events of cultural activity*, such as concerts, theatre performances, theme days and festivals.
A total of 5,000€ in event grants will be awarded in 2026 in two installments:
First application period 13.1.-15.2.2026
Applications received by 15.2.2026 will be processed by the end of February. The grants are intended for events taking place between 1.3.–31.7.2026. The appropriation allocated to the first installment is 2,500€. Applications will be processed by the end of February.
Second application period 13.4.-15.5.2026
Applications received by 15.5.2026 will be processed by the end of May. The grants are targeted to events taking place between 1.8.–31.12.2026. The appropriation allocated to the second installment is 2,500€. Applications will be processed by the end of May.
The purpose of the application periods and the two processing rounds is to ensure that a sufficient number of mutually comparable applications are received by the deadline and to ensure that event grants are distributed more evenly across the calendar year. In total, up to 5,000€ in event grants will be awarded in 2026.
What is an event grant?
- There is a continuous electronic application for the event grant and the cultural producer decides on the distribution of the event grant at their discretion and within budgetary limits (Janakkala municipal rules of procedure § 27.7.4)
- A total of 5,000€ in event grants is distributed annually.
- The maximum grant amount for a single event is 800€.
- An applicant can only be awarded an event grant once per calendar year.
- Grants are generally awarded to an association or activity group that does not receive operating grants for cultural associations.
- An association already receiving operating grants for cultural associations may be awarded an event grant if the planned event differs significantly from the association’s otherwise annually organized activities.
- Associations are encouraged to apply for operating grants for their core activities and associated events, not for event grants.
- Event grants are only awarded for the implementation of cultural events open to everyone in Janakkala. Participation by residents must not be restricted on the basis of membership of an organization, invitation, ideological stance, a fee considered higher than reasonable, or other comparable grounds.
Event grants cannot be awarded
- For events that have already taken place.
- For events held outside Janakkala municipality.
- To private individuals, and not to central/district organizations, communities, or companies for onward distribution.
- For events or projects that are primarily party-political or religious in purpose.
- For associations’ internal annual celebrations, trips, events or training.
- For events or other projects that include election advertising or other election activities.
* According to section 1 of the Act on Municipal Cultural Activities (166/2019): “Municipal cultural activities refer to activities by which a municipality promotes the creation, practice, accessibility and use of culture and the arts, as well as art and cultural education and cultural heritage.”
What obligations come with receiving an event grant?
- Recipients of event grants are obliged, at an appropriate opportunity, to publicly mention that Janakkala municipality has supported the activity. Janakkala municipality reserves the right to use event information, submitted photographs and any logo in its communications and marketing, but decides itself where and how. The use of the Janakkala municipality’s logo in the event organizer’s materials is always agreed separately.
- After the event, a reporting form must be completed within one month, to which a photograph of the event must be attached.
- The recipient must, upon request, provide receipts/accounting based on paid vouchers that show the grant was used for the purpose for which it was awarded.
- The event grant may only be used for the purpose for which it was awarded based on the application.
- Any change to the purpose of the event grant or extension of its usage period must always be requested in writing from Janakkala’s cultural services. Well-founded changes are possible and thus avoid the return of a paid grant.
- If the grant is used for a purpose other than that for which it was applied for or granted, the municipality has the right to reclaim the grant.
- If the recipient cannot, upon request, provide an acceptable accounting or explanation of how the grant was used within three months of the event’s conclusion, the grant may be reclaimed.
How to apply for an event grant?
When awarding event grants, consideration is given to the applicant’s need for support, the nature of the activity, broad-based reach and the applicant’s own fundraising (e.g. entrance fees), as well as the appropriation available at the time. Therefore, the application should include, in addition to information about the applicant, a description of the activity to be supported and a budget estimate. The budget should present as accurately as possible the expected income and expenses of the event, as well as an explanation of the applicant’s own funding share and other grants and subsidies applied for the event.
Please make sure you have read the above instructions and the grounds for granting support before filling in the form.
The application form opens on 13 January 2026. The 2025 event grant application is closed.
