What is compensated?

You can apply for assistance from the ELY Centre for the prevention of damages caused by species protected under the Nature Conservation Act, as well as for compensation and support for damages caused by these species.

Applying for compensation

Compensation for damages must be applied for without undue delay after the damage has been established. Compensation must generally be requested by the end of the year in which the damage occurred. The compensations and supports to be paid are based on the law on the prevention and compensation of damages caused by protected animals. The ELY Centre makes the decisions on assistance, compensation, and support. Payments are processed by the KEHA Centre.

Apply for assistance, compensation, and support, as well as for their payment, primarily through the regional administration’s e-service (link below). Logging into the service requires strong identification using bank credentials, a mobile certificate, or a certificate card.

If it is not possible to use the e-service or if you do not have the necessary tools for strong identification, you can apply using a printable form. Submit the application with attachments to the ELY Centre in the area where the damage occurred. You can send the application to the ELY Centre’s registry by post, email, or deliver it in person, or attach it to a general application form for individuals. If you apply for payment using a printable form, submit the payment application to the KEHA Centre.

Information to be provided in the application

• what animal species caused the damage
• when and where the damage occurred
• the nature and extent of the damage and
• whether the applicant is entitled to compensation based on insurance or other legislation.

Attach receipts for material costs incurred from repairing the damage to the application. Receipts for any paid statements may be accepted as costs incurred in the grant application.
