Support for Growth and Learning
Early childhood education promotes the child’s balanced growth, development, and learning. Support for growth and learning is implemented according to inclusive principles. The starting point is the child’s strengths and the needs related to learning, development, and well-being, enabling participation in activities within their own group with flexible arrangements together with other children.
The individual support needs of the child are assessed together with the child’s guardians. In addition to the early childhood education staff, the consulting special early childhood education teacher (kveo) is responsible for matters related to the child’s support needs. They are an expert in support for growth and learning, tasked with guiding and advising early childhood education staff and guardians on matters related to the child’s support needs. The consulting special early childhood education teacher participates in assessing the child’s support needs, planning, implementing, and monitoring support in multidisciplinary cooperation with early childhood education staff and guardians. The child is also heard and their opinions are taken into account.
A decision on intensified and special support and support services is made based on the assessment of support needs. In Janakkala, the consulting special early childhood education teacher prepares the administrative decision and is responsible for hearing the child’s guardians or other legal representatives. The administrative decision is made by the early childhood education director. The preparation process takes into account any expert opinions. The child’s early childhood education plan is updated according to the decision, even when the level of support changes.
