The Early Childhood Education Curriculum Guidelines 2022 are a national decree issued by the Finnish National Agency for Education that guide the organisation, implementation and development of early childhood education. Their objective is to promote high-quality and equitable early childhood education across the country.

Early childhood education is a planned and goal-oriented whole made up of upbringing, teaching and care. The basis of the activities is pedagogy, that is, supporting the child’s growth, learning and wellbeing.

The municipality of Janakkala’s early childhood education plan (vasu) is based on the national curriculum guidelines for early childhood education. The local early childhood education plan describes how we implement early childhood education in Janakkala. Our early childhood education plan is image- and story-oriented, practical, visually appealing and easy to read, and it opens up the core of early childhood education pedagogy. We have prepared the early childhood education plan together with children, guardians and early childhood education staff.

Child’s early childhood education plan

We prepare an individual early childhood education plan for each child, the child’s vasu. The child’s early childhood education plan is a respectful, supportive and positive account of the child’s uniqueness.

We collect information on the child’s skills, abilities, learning and interests into the plan. We involve the child in making the plan. The child can participate, for example, by means of pictures, videos, interviews or discussions before or during the vasu discussion.

We prepare the plan together with the guardians. We agree and record how we will support the child’s growth and learning in early childhood education and at home. We evaluate and update the plan at least once a year.

Group early childhood education plan

In addition to the child’s early childhood education plan, we prepare a group early childhood education plan (group vasu) in daycare centres and family day care. The group early childhood education plan describes how we take into account children’s participation, wellbeing and learning in everyday life. The plan also considers the group’s strengths, interests and needs.
