School Enrollment
Enrollment for first grade of comprehensive education from February 17 to March 2, 2025.
Compulsory education begins in the year the child turns seven. In Janakkala, a child’s school place is determined according to the admission areas of the primary schools.
Enrollment in school is done through the Wilma system. Letters will be sent to new pupils at the beginning of February, containing enrollment instructions. It is also possible to apply for school transport at the time of enrollment. Please contact the education office if you have not received a letter or if enrollment occurs after the above-mentioned registration period.
Guardians have the opportunity to apply for a secondary school place from a school other than the primary school according to the admission area. In secondary admission, the pupil does not have the right to school transport or travel benefits.
Deferring the Start of School to a Year Earlier or Later
In certain cases, it is possible to start school a year earlier or later than planned. Starting at six years old is possible if the child is considered to have sufficient readiness for school. The assessment is made by a psychologist arranged and funded by the guardians.
The start of school can also be deferred to a year later than planned if an expert states so. More information about this and a possible school readiness assessment can be obtained from the child’s preschool location and special education teachers in early childhood education.
Moving Pupils
If the family moves to the municipality or within the municipality, a school registration form must be filled out. It is also advisable to contact the principal of the future school to arrange practicalities, such as familiarization with the school and agreeing on the start date. When moving within the municipality, the local school may change according to the boundaries of the admission areas.
