Walk-in therapy starts in Janakkala

Janakkala will get new low-threshold conversational support when Walk in therapy begins at Turenki coeducational school and upper secondary school on March 25, 2026

Walk in therapy is session-based therapeutic work that is based on the principles of brief therapy and a solution- and resource-focused approach. Walk in therapy is free and anonymous counselling offered nationwide, especially for young people and young adults under 29. If they wish, a young person can come to talk several times. However, a new session may have a different therapist. In Janakkala we will start Walk in therapy at Turenki coeducational school and upper secondary school on March 25, 2026. In Janakkala the service is aimed at both lower secondary and upper secondary school students.

Walk in therapy is suitable for anyone who feels the need to talk. The meeting addresses the matters the young person wants to talk about. Walk in therapy is suitable, for example, for dealing with life turning points, crises, challenges, reflecting on the direction of life, one’s identity, relationships or emotional issues. You can come to talk whether the matter is small or large. Walk in therapy is not treatment for a mental illness, but it can help in coping with a mental illness, for example in situations where a young person is waiting to access psychotherapy. Walk in therapy is available quickly.

In meetings, work is carried out using the methods of solution-focused brief therapy. These methods emphasise recognising strengths, building solutions instead of dwelling on the past, describing the desired future situation and considering goals and means.

You can simply arrive at Walk in therapy during drop-in hours without an appointment or a referral. If Turenki Walk in therapy becomes very popular and there are many attendees, we will implement appointment booking. Conversations can be anonymous if the client wishes and no records related to the young person are kept from the visit.
Therapists have suitable basic training and either a qualification as a brief therapist or as a psychotherapist, or they are therapist students.

Walk in therapy is provided in-person in about 30 municipalities and at more than 50 service points by, among others, municipalities, parishes and organizations. Walk in therapy is also offered online via video meetings. The Finnish Association
for Children and Youth coordinates the activity nationally. In Janakkala the municipality’s youth services are responsible for the activity. For now we are not able to hold reception every week, but we will send a notice in Wilma when Walk in therapy will be available in spring 2026. During the summer we will work to include more therapists so that the activity could be weekly in the autumn.
