The Week of Older People, October 6-12


The Week of Older People will be held this year from October 6 to 12, 2025, under the theme Happiness Grows in Community. Many events will take place in Janakkala during the week. They are free of charge and open to everyone, unless otherwise stated for a specific event. You are warmly welcome to join!

On Monday, October 6, from 10 AM to 1 PM, it is the Yhes ollaan (We’re together) day at the Tervakoski parish center. The program includes coffee, a devotion, Kimmo Hurri will present photographs, and lunch. The fee is 5 euros, and pre-registration is required by September 26 at 1 PM from this link. On Monday, October 6, from 2 PM to 4 PM, Finnhits Jortsut at the Turenki Sports Hall.
Glitter in your eyes, pigtails on your head, and flower pants on your legs! Finnhits jortsut will get the hips moving and feet tapping under the guidance of Showman Simodeus. Organized by the Municipality of Janakkala.

Art Exhibition “Värikkäästi” (Colorfully) in the lobby of Janakkala Main Library from October 7 to 24. Opening on Tuesday, October 7, at 6 PM. Organized by the Janakkalan ikätaideyhdistys.

On Wednesday, October 8, at 2 PM at Kyterinhovi and on Friday, October 10, at 1 PM at Kotipelto, outdoor activities for residents. Organized by Lions Club Idat together with the Red Cross Janakkala branch.

On Wednesday, October 8, from 5 PM to 6:30 PM, the webinar Onni kasvaa yhteis(ty)össä (Happiness grows in community (and working together)). In honor of the Week of Older People and World Mental Health Day celebrated on October 10, Oma Häme and the municipalities are organizing a webinar aimed at strengthening residents’ ability to promote their own well-being and increasing awareness of services that can be contacted easily at different turns in life. The webinar is specifically aimed at working-age adults and the elderly. The webinar will include presentations by professionals on various themes, after which anonymous questions are possible. 

You can join the webinar from your home computer, tablet, or phone. Participation does not require the installation of separate systems, only a functioning internet connection is needed. The link to the webinar will be published on the page found behind this link.

On Thursday, October 9, from 9:30 AM to 2:30 PM, Autumn meet-up for older folks at the Rantalahti camp center. The program includes exercise, various workshops, lunch, and coffee. On Friday, October 10, from 10 AM to 2 PM at K-Supermarket Turengi, coffee and pastries will be available. Organized by K-Supermarket Turenki and the senior advisory board.

On Saturday, October 11, from 7 AM to 12 PM, Listening Ears phone call. Elderly people can call deacon Ritva and share their news and concerns in confidence. In the call, they can also pray together or chat about various things. Organized by Janakkala Parish, Ritva Voivala, phone 0447656952.

On Saturday, October 11, from 11 AM to 2 PM, music, food, and coffee will be available in front of the Red Cross flea market and at the Juttutupa, Kauppakuja 1 Turenki. Music is provided by Heimo Ketola and Jussi Rämö. Organized by the Red Cross Janakkala branch.

On Sunday, October 12, the Week of Older People church service at 10 AM at the Church of St. Lawrence. After the service, there will be a small program and church coffee. Free church transport from Turenki bus station at 9 AM, Kiipula, Leppäkoski at 9:15 AM, Tervakoski bus station at 9:30 AM, Kirkkotie, road 130, Hakoistentie, Church of St. Lawrence. Return transport will leave around 12 PM. Organized by Janakkala Parish.

Take an older person swimming with you campaign at the Tervakoski swimming hall all week
A retiree can go swimming with a friend at the friend’s ticket price. Proof of retirement must be shown with a pension card. The benefit applies to all elderly people regardless of residence.
If an adult and a retiree, the retiree is free.
If a child over 7 years old and a retiree, the retiree is free.
If a child under 7 years old + retiree, both can enter for free.
If there is a retiree + retiree, then one is free and the other pays either with a 70+ card/package or single ticket.
