The number of new job openings has turned to an increase in the South Häme employment area
The number of new job vacancies in the South Häme employment area (EHTA) has increased by 13 percent over the year. In September 2025, there were a total of 156 new job vacancies in Riihimäki, Janakkala, Loppi, and Hausjärvi, compared to 138 in September 2024.
Across Finland, the number of job vacancies increased by six percent over the year. However, the KEHA Center notes in its release that the statistics for June to December 2024 do not include job vacancies that employers had prohibited from being transferred to the employment authorities. Such jobs are included in the 2025 figures.
The number of unemployed jobseekers continued to grow
In the South Häme employment area, the number of unemployed jobseekers has increased by 17 percent over the year. In September 2025, there were a total of 2,878 unemployed jobseekers in Riihimäki, Janakkala, Loppi, and Hausjärvi, compared to 2,466 in September 2024. Nationwide, the number of unemployed jobseekers increased by 10 percent over the year.
However, over the month, the number of unemployed jobseekers has decreased by two percent, as there were 2,936 unemployed jobseekers in the EHTA area in August 2025.
In the South Häme employment area, there were a total of 374 unemployed jobseekers under 25 years old in September this year. This is 31 percent more than in September 2024. Those unemployed for over a year numbered 995 in September this year, which is 36 percent more than a year ago.
Unemployment among foreigners decreased in Riihimäki and Loppi
In the South Häme employment area, the number of unemployed foreign jobseekers has increased by three percent over the year: there were 308 in September 2025 and 300 in September 2024. In Riihimäki, there were 258 foreign unemployed jobseekers in September, 50 in Janakkala, 21 in Hausjärvi, and 15 in Loppi. In Riihimäki, the number of foreign unemployed jobseekers was 14 fewer than a year earlier, and in Loppi, one fewer.
In the South Häme employment area, the proportion of foreign unemployed jobseekers out of the foreign workforce has decreased by 3.3 percent over the year: it was 28.3 percent at the end of September 2025 and 31.6 percent at the end of September 2024.
