The communal rental homes of Janakkala are named Tervanheimo
Janakkalan Asunnot is currently building accessible and community-oriented rental apartments for those over 55 in Tervakoski. A naming competition for the apartment complex was held last spring, and the board of Janakkalan Kodit has now chosen the name Tervanheimo from the suggestions.
The name combines Tervakoski and the street address of the apartments, Heimolantie. The naming competition also suggested versions such as Tervaheimo and Tervasheimo.
Tervanheimo includes four buildings designed by an architect as four-plexes, each containing four 44 square meter apartments and a community building with terraces. The communal building will include a gathering space with kitchens, a laundry room, a sauna, and an overnight room for residents’ guests. Half of the apartments will have a balcony and half a terrace. The apartments will be heated with geothermal energy and will have fiber optic connections ready.
The homes will be completed such that lease agreements will start on June 1, 2026.
Janakkalan Kodit is already accepting applications for the apartments, and resident selections will be made in January 2026. If there is strong demand for the apartments, the company has the option to build more similar apartments on the same plot, provided that the continuation project is also granted Ara/Varken 40-year interest subsidy loans and municipal guarantees.
– There has been considerable interest, and there are already more applications than there are apartments, says managing director Seppo Hakamäki.
The construction project is financed by a state interest subsidy loan (formerly ARA, now VARKE), which is why the apartments will be allocated to those in greatest need.
– In November, all applicants will be informed of the final rent price and asked if they still wish to keep their application for Tervanheimo valid. The rent price is aimed to be kept below the maximum amount of housing costs accepted by Kela for single-person households in Janakkala.
Janakkalan Kodit also received state investment support for community space and activities. After the resident selection in January, planning for community activities will begin in collaboration with the future residents.
Janakkalan Kodit (Janakkalan Asunnot Oy) is a rental housing company wholly owned by the municipality of Janakkala. It has rental apartments in Tervakoski, Turenki, and Leppäkoski.
