Janakkala’s new strategy looks boldly toward the future
Janakkala’s new strategy, looking ahead to 2040, has moved to decision-makers for consideration; the municipal executive will have it on its table on Monday 24.11.2025.
– Businesses, associations, residents as well as staff and a steering group made up of decision-makers hoped for boldness from the new strategy, which is now strongly visible in the proposal, says wellbeing director Hanna Paikkala, who, together with technical director Harri Vierikka, was responsible for the strategy process.
It has been an intensive but effective roughly six-month process, which began with a mapping of the current situation and a residents’ survey, crystallizing along the way into its present form.
– In particular, the municipal council worked extensively on the strategy; there were three seminars and remote work at home between them, Paikkala continues.
Janakkala’s new vision is “Vitality through courage”. Only one value was chosen and that too is “courage”. Courage is expected to cover all activities and, as a value, it means being boldly responsible, experimental and leading the way.
The goals in the strategy are gathered under two themes:
Irresistibly attractive Janakkala
The aim is a vibrant municipal centre, strong villages and a thriving Tervakoski. The municipality invests in attractiveness, marketing, plot sales and good transport connections. Janakkala is intended to be an attractive place to live, run a business and cooperate.
Irresistibly proud Janakkala
The municipality wants to be a supportive employer with skilled and well employees. Finances will be kept sustainable and the future will be prepared for proactively. Investment will be made in the wellbeing of children and young people, as it is seen as the foundation of vitality.
– Not everything is intended to be implemented at once; the vision is set for 2040. After its approval, the strategy will be implemented through programmes that define the measures and timetable, Paikkala says.
During the process, the wish to put children and young people at the centre was emphasised, and the strategy therefore includes the goal of increasing the wellbeing of children and young people.
The municipal council will consider the strategy on 8.12.2025.
The strategy proposal can be found in full in the appendices of the municipal executive’s agenda. (in Finnish)
The strategy will receive its visual identity only after approval by the municipal council.
