Janakkala’s cooperation negotiations have ended
The cooperation negotiations of the Janakkala municipality have ended. The municipal executive will receive the negotiation result on its table on Tuesday 17.3.2026.
Negotiations initiated for economic and production-related reasons aimed to reduce personnel costs by at least 200,000€ in 2026 and by 700,000–1 million euros per year from 2027 onwards.
The negotiations resulted in a reduction of 17.5 full-time equivalents (FTE). The savings will be implemented through various arrangements, such as dismissals, reductions to part-time, leaving positions vacant and changes in job titles and job descriptions.
| MEASURES | people | FTE reduction |
| Dismissals | 7 | 7 |
| Reductions to part-time | 3 | 1.5 |
| Not filled (position/post) | 2 | |
| Changes in job titles | 5 | |
| Changes in job descriptions | 10 | |
| Salary change | 5-10 | |
| Changing a post into a permanent position | 2 | |
| Fixed-term (not filled) | 6 | 6 |
| Retiring (not filled) | 1 | 1 |
In euros the negotiation result means savings of 342,925€ for the current year and 770,500€ per year from 2027 onwards.
Employees affected by the changes will be informed soon after the municipal executive’s consideration. As part of the negotiations, an employment support plan was also approved to assist employees during the transition.
Negotiations were held a total of four times between 21.1.–5.3.2026 and originally concerned the entire staff. However, the educational management and the education result areas were excluded due to significant savings already made there, such as the abolition of the director of education position.
– I warmly thank both those who participated in the negotiations and all staff for achieving the common goal. Unfortunately the negotiation result inevitably means unpleasant news for some of our employees. The municipality of Janakkala will provide them with all possible support.
The personnel have contributed significantly to balancing the municipality’s finances through these and other savings affecting employees. Next we must examine the service network with equal determination to safeguard sustainable finances and operations and an independent municipality in the future, says chief executive Riikka Moilanen.
