Education committee requests further information before school decisions

On February 10, 2026 the education committee had a proposal on its table to begin preparing school closures so that the Heinäjoki and Vähikkälä schools would be closed in summer 2026 and the Tanttala and Virala schools in summer 2027.

The education committee decided to start preparing changes to the school network with several additional conditions. Before proposals to close individual schools are submitted to the committee, sufficient and up-to-date preparatory material must be presented.

The education committee also instructed that, in preparing decisions concerning the school network, their impact on Janakkala’s future should be considered in a comprehensive manner.
