The village of Virala, with about 400 residents, is located next to the Helsinki-Tampere motorway: good transport links and the motorway junction have contributed to making Virala a home for many families with children.

The village also has a vibrant primary school. The lake Viralanjärvi, which belongs to the Vanajavesistö water system, cuts through the village in a north-south direction. On the eastern shore lies the Virala manor, which raises pheasants, while to the west stretches the old mill village of Virala from the north end of the lake. Residents appreciate the beautiful, peaceful rural landscape and closeness to nature in their home village.

Virala village association

Established in the 1980s and registered in 1997, the Virala village association initially focused on preserving the local school. Over the years, the village association has organized various activities to enhance the village’s livability. At the end of July, the traditionally held barn dances take place annually. A lean-to has been built by the riverside for the use of villagers and hikers. Additionally, the village association has renovated the school’s outbuilding for meeting and storage purposes.
