The village of Saloinen is over 600 years old, first mentioned in the 14th-century cathedral register. However, the village had to be partly resettled after the great years of mortality at the end of the 17th century. In 2006, a village history titled ‘Saloksilta’ was published.

The village of Saloinen is located scenically on the wilderness plateau of Janakkala. The village road winds along the shores of lake Saloistenjärvi, also known as Lempellonjärvi, offering passersby a stunning lake view with waterfowl.

Other bodies of water include Venonlammet, which are the highest lakes and small ponds in Janakkala above sea level. Additionally, there are Kalaton, Monikkalan Rajalammi and Kiialan Rajalammi, Kakarilammi, and Särkilammi right at the border of Lammi (Hämeenlinna).

The sculptor Anton Ravander-Rauas’ family came to Saloinen after the Winter War from Helsinki to escape the war, and they stayed until late autumn of 1947. As a result, there are many reliefs and plaster sculptures of domestic animals made by him in the houses of the village.

Among the associations in Saloinen is the Janakkala Saloinen Youth Association, a village association, and Saloisten Erä. Also, due to the hunting lodge of the Turenki hunting club located in the related village of Lempello, the hunting club founded by the father of Finnish telephony, court councilor Daniel Johannes Wadén, also operates in the area.

The village’s school, which was closed in 1967, hosts the Vanajavesi Institute’s weaving circle and exercise group. Before Christmas, the most beautiful Christmas carols are sung at the school accompanied by the parish’s cantor.

Another important building is the youth association house Tanhula, where midsummer dances are organized annually as well as summer evenings in July.
