Janakkala is located at the heart of Finland’s Growth Corridor, halfway between Helsinki and Tampere – just an hour’s journey from either city. Its neighboring cities are Riihimäki to the south and Hämeenlinna to the north.

Both the motorway and Finland’s main railway line run through Janakkala, with commuter trains stopping at Turenki Station.

Janakkala has two population centers: Tervakoski, known for the Puuhamaa amusement park and home to Finland’s oldest still-operating paper mill, and Turenki, shaped by industry; its sugar and ice cream factories, and the railway.

The municipality is also home to several vibrant villages, including Tarinmaa with its medieval Church of St. Lawrence, Kiipula known for its education center, and Leppäkoski, the birthplace of a legendary actress Ida Aalberg. Visit the pages of villages and population centers.

The nature is dominated by impressive long ridges and numerous small lakes and ponds, as well as rivers that provide water connections to Hämeenlinna and through Vanajanselkä all the way to Tampere. Explore the nature of Janakkala.
