Mobile library

Janakkala has had mobile library services since 1969. The mobile library carries around 4,000 books, magazines, films and other material, but the collections of the main library and Tervakoski are also available to customers via the vehicle. The mobile library has toured Janakkala’s village schools, daycares, villages and population centers five days a week year-round.

Preparations are underway to discontinue the service

Janakkala municipal council decided on January 26, 2026 in its meeting, after a vote, that preparations will begin to discontinue Janakkala’s mobile library service as part of the municipality’s measures to balance its finances.

The mobile library’s operations ended on December 5, 2025 after the driver moved on to other duties. January 2026 was still handled as a purchased service for daycares and schools.

At the moment the mobile library is not running until further notice. A possible single spring tour is still being planned, but it will be announced separately.

The welfare committee will decide on the discontinuation of the mobile library during spring 2026. Before that, impact assessments and more detailed savings calculations will be carried out.
