Children’s Rights Week is celebrated this year from November 17 to 23, 2025. Children’s Rights Week is a theme week aimed at promoting awareness of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, especially among children and young people. This year’s theme is the child’s right to belong, which has two meanings: the child has the right to belong and connect to the community and society, and on the other hand, they have the right to be not only seen but also heard. #RightToBelong #IHaveTheRightToBelong #YouHaveTheRightToBelong

For more information, visit the Children’s Rights Week website.

The municipality of Janakkala is involved in Children’s Rights Week in various ways. Events and activities organized by the municipality will be compiled on this page.

Mon 17.11. Advocacy Event
The Janakkala Youth Council will organize the traditional Advocacy Event (VaTi) day at the Tervakoski Community House on Monday, November 17, 2025, from 9 AM to 1 PM.
About 100 children and young people from around Janakkala will participate in the VaTi day, where tough questions for local decision-makers and officials will be collected this autumn!

Fri 21.11. Children’s Day at Work
Children’s Day at Work will be celebrated on Friday, November 21, 2025. Children are welcome to come to work with parents or guardians. The municipality of Janakkala will participate in the celebration of the day.

At Porttilantie daycare, a joint play for the entire daycare is planned for Children’s Rights Week.
Based on the children’s interests, a popular shop play has been chosen. The shop play will be set up in the hall (larger activity area of the daycare) and will continue for several days.

At Kettukallio daycare, an All Children Play day is planned for Thursday of Children’s Rights Week. The idea is that the entire daycare building is available for all groups, and staff will move with children to different play stations organized in the groups. A Children’s Celebration is planned for Friday, where children’s wishes and ideas will be asked in advance for the celebration. Based on the responses received from the children, planning will begin for a joint celebration for the entire house.

At Harviala daycare, the official materials for Children’s Rights Week will be used and adapted according to the age level of the groups. Additionally, a garland will be made together, which has a piece from each child. Such a visible collective project shows how everyone is part of the daycare community. The garland will also promote the themed week to parents and is likely to be a long-lasting decoration (and reminder of Children’s Rights) for all of us. The aim is to complete the garland before the themed week, so it can be displayed right at the beginning of the week. Each group will also plan their own celebration moment/theme day with the children for the week.
