Janakkala is located at the center of Finland’s growth corridor, halfway between Helsinki and Tampere, just an hour’s journey from either city. The neighboring cities are Riihimäki to the south and Hämeenlinna to the north.

Both the motorway and Finland’s main railway cross Janakkala, with local trains stopping at Turenki Station.

Janakkala has two towns: Tervakoski, known for the oldest still-operating paper mill in Finland, and Turenki, which has grown due to industry, sugar and ice cream factories, and the railway. Janakkala also has several active villages such as Tarinmaa, which houses the medieval Church of St. Lawrence, Kiipula known for its educational center, and the home village of actress legend Ida Aalberg, Leppäkoski. Visit the pages of villages and towns.

The nature is dominated by impressive long ridges and numerous small lakes and ponds, as well as rivers that provide water connections to Hämeenlinna and through Vanajanselkä all the way to Tampere. Explore the nature of Janakkala.
