Internationality
At Janakkala High School, we want to enable students to grow into global citizens. Our school is an international and multicultural community. Students from various countries such as Myanmar, Vietnam, Ukraine, Poland, Estonia, Rwanda, and Somalia study at our high school. In a multicultural environment, each student gains experiences in home internationality and the diversity of society, where different identities, languages, religions, and beliefs coexist and interact in everyday life. In addition to everyday encounters, opportunities for internationality education are provided in various courses and events in high school. Through this, students learn to analyze internationalization and globalization as phenomena and to act ethically sustainably, strengthening their knowledge of human rights and their agency in promoting human rights, equality, justice, and ethically responsible lifestyles.
Additionally, we want to offer students the opportunity to travel abroad as part of their studies each academic year. First-year students have the opportunity to participate in the Discover Stockholm course, during which they visit attractions in the neighboring country. In the second year of high school, Turenki students have the possibility to take part in a course themed around Jewish Persecution, culminating in a trip to Poland. Second-year students from Tervakoski can participate in a thematic study course called Journey to Ancient Rome, where they visit and explore Rome from ancient times. German students have the chance to practice the language and learn about German culture in Berlin. Janakkala High School has a partner school in Milan, where students are offered the opportunity to visit annually. Milanese high school students also visit Janakkala. Students participating in the Milan trip stay with local families and act as host families for a Milanese youth during the return visit.
