Construction phases of school and multipurpose centers
Building projects proceed in the order determined by the council:
- Turenki primary school
- Tervakoski lower secondary school
- Turenki lower secondary school and sports hall
- Tervakoski primary school
The Turenki school and multipurpose center will be implemented in two phases, with the first phase including the construction of the primary school and the second phase consisting of the construction of the secondary school, high school, and sports hall.

Turenki school center Välkky
On March 22, 2021, the council selected YIT Suomi Oy as the contractor for the Turenki school and multipurpose center. The contractor started planning the project with building permit drawings immediately after mid-April. The first phase of the school and multipurpose center is approximately 8400 square meters and three stories high. The building has geothermal heating and solar panels, and its energy efficiency is rated A. The building is located on the sand field of the former primary school and is connected to the library-sports hall by a covered corridor. The recess areas are located between the building and the artificial turf field.
The construction of the first phase in Turenki began in late summer 2021, and the building was taken into use for school purposes in August 2023. In addition to preschool, grades 1-6, and special education classes, the building includes common areas and other facilities for the Sibelius Academy.

Tervakoski school center Valo
The council approved the updated project plan for the Tervakoski school and multipurpose center in its meeting on April 11, 2022.
2nd phase of Turenki school and multipurpose center
The facility investigations and planning for the 2nd phase of the Turenki school center have begun. The goal is to provide decision-makers with an implementation option during 2025 that can be taken to competitive bidding and execution. The contents of the facilities are under review, and options will be developed in early 2024. The goal is to assess the space needs of the secondary school and high school and explore potential options for sports facilities. The possible timeline for the sports facilities will also be considered.
Before the construction of the 2nd phase, the demolition of the old school is expected to be completed by summer 2025. The demolition contractor Ahosen Palvelut Oy has started the mechanical demolition phase after the internal demolition work has been completed. There was a significant amount of hazardous material demolition at the site. Mechanical demolition and the sorting and removal of demolition materials are ongoing.
