Janakkala has groundwater extraction permits for the production of drinking water and six groundwater extraction facilities.

In 2023, the amount of water pumped was 1,251,795 m3. The pumping amounts vary from different extraction points.

In all of Janakkala, the water is soft, and its hardness value is 2.8…5.6 odH (0.50…1.00 mmol/l).

The risk assessment according to the Health Protection Act (763/1994) Section 20 was approved on September 4, 2019. Critical risks were assessed to potentially relate to land use planning, treatment of wastewater from scattered settlements, and decommissioned wells as well as ventilation systems during periods of radioactive fallout.
