Maintenance of road areas
Janakkala has approximately 100 km of streets and paths.
The “Law on the Maintenance and Cleaning of Streets and Certain Public Areas” defines the responsibilities for street maintenance. The law outlines the division of responsibilities between the municipality and property owners, the contents of maintenance and cleaning, and quality levels. It also includes provisions for the supervision of work conducted on streets and public areas.
The municipality is responsible for the condition of the pavement, leveling of gravel roads, dust control, as well as landscaping, street furniture, curbs, guardrails, traffic signs, and other similar devices, as well as the removal of abandoned vehicles from the environment. The municipality also takes care of snow removal and ice control, as well as the removal of materials used for control. In Janakkala, the municipality is also responsible for the winter maintenance of sidewalks.
It is the responsibility of the property owner to keep the street area from the property line to the centerline of the street clean and healthily satisfactory by removing dirt, leaves, litter, loose objects, and weeds that accumulate on the street. An area extending three meters from the property line onto the street must be mowed, and any ditches with culverts must be kept open.
Feedback on street maintenance can be submitted through the feedback channel.
