Water Supply Network
Drinking water is delivered to users through the water supply network. Janakkalan Vesi has approximately 200 km of water pipes. The largest pipes leading from the water intake are 280 mm in diameter. As the network branches, the pipes reduce in size to 160–90 mm distribution pipes and further to 32 mm property pipes, which end at the water meters located on the properties.
The water supply network is divided into two pressure zones. Each has its own elevated water tank, or water tower. The combined volume of the water towers in Turenki and Tervakoski is 1550 m3. These maintain as uniform a pressure as possible in the network, store water for emergencies, and smooth out peaks in water consumption.
Sewer Networks
In Janakkala, a separate sewer system is used. In this system, only wastewater is directed through wastewater sewers to the treatment plant, while rainwater and drainage water are directed through stormwater sewers to bodies of water or infiltrated into the ground.
The length of the wastewater sewer is approximately 204 km. The sewers are designed according to the terrain so that wastewater flows by gravity to the treatment plant. When this is not possible, wastewater is pumped forward. Janakkalan Vesi’s sewer network includes 39 wastewater pumping stations.
Properties connect to Janakkalan Vesi’s network via property water pipes and sewers. The property pipes belong to the property, meaning that the maintenance responsibility lies with the property from the connection point to the distribution pipe and property pipe onwards.
