Self-service library

At the Janakkala main library, you can visit independently during extended opening hours. You register for the self-service library using the card reader located next to the library’s outer door. You place your library card in the reader and enter a four-digit PIN, which unlocks the door. The PIN is the same one used, for example, in the online library and at the borrowing machine. Staff will assist customers in using the self-service library during service hours.

The library has access control and recorded video surveillance.

What can you do during self-service hours?

• You can borrow and return items at the machines. The screens of the borrowing and returning machines guide you in borrowing and returning.
• Reservations can be picked up from the reservation shelf. Reserved materials are organized in numerical order based on the customer number.
• Information retrieval is done independently.
• You can use the library’s facilities for studying and working. The library’s open WLAN network is available.

What can’t you do during self-service hours?

• You cannot pay fees to the library or top up time on your gym card.
• You cannot print, copy, or scan, and the library’s upper floor is not accessible.
• Services that require staff are therefore not available during self-service hours.

Logging in and out:

• Log in with your library card and personal PIN.
• Please do not let other customers in with the same door opening. You are responsible for everyone you let in.
• At the end of service hours, you must log out as a self-service library user at the borrowing machine or you cannot stay in the library.
• Those under 15 years old can visit the self-service library accompanied by a guardian. However, everyone must leave at the same time.
• You must leave the library by 9:00 PM at the latest. After this, alarms will be activated. Customers causing false alarms will be responsible for any incurred costs.

Use of the reading room:

• During self-service hours, you must log into the reading room just like the self-service library. After that, the reading room services are available as normal.
• You cannot access the reading room from the anteroom unless you have logged in.

Lobby and restroom facilities:

• During morning self-service hours, you can access the lobby and restrooms through the anteroom.
• After service hours, you cannot access the lobby. Restroom facilities are also not available.

Users under 15 years old in the self-service library:

• Users in the self-service library who are under 15 years old require a guardian-signed agreement.
• The agreement must be signed during service hours at the library.
• The guardian is responsible for the minor’s visits to the library.
